Find out if neurostimulation could be right for you

At Abbott, we understand how pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy can impact your life. From sleepless nights to difficulty performing basic tasks, it can be unpredictable and challenging to find a treatment that works for you.

New approved indication to provide relief for diabetic peripheral neuropathy

Neurostimulation, also called spinal cord stimulation (SCS), has been recommended by doctors for over 50 years to help people manage pain.1

Now approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy of the lower extremeties, the Proclaim™ XR SCS System may be right for you if you have2:

  • Consistent neuropathic pain in your feet or lower extremeties (burning, tingling, or numbness)
  • Type 1 or 2 diabetes
  • Little to no relief from other treatments such as gabapentin,
    pregabalin or other medications3

HOW NEUROSTIMULATION WORKS
TO BLOCK PAIN SIGNALS

Pain is the body’s natural response to injury, and it is felt when nerves send pain signals through your spinal cord to the brain.

Abbott’s neurostimulation therapies are designed to interrupt those signals as they travel to the brain by sending electrical pulses in the spinal cord to minimize how you perceive pain.

One of the advantages of neurostimulation is that you can try the therapy using a temporary system before committing to an implanted system.

The temporary system and implanted system are typically covered by most major insurance plans, Medicare and workers’ compensation programs. You will need to work with your doctor’s office and insurance company to determine your coverage.

FIND A PAIN SPECIALIST NEAR YOU

No one should have to manage pain caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy alone. A pain specialist is someone who partners with you to develop treatment plans that are personalized to your specific needs.

Doctors who specialize in pain don’t just have more information and education on the subject. They work with specialized nurses, physical therapists and mental health professionals who understand pain and work with you every day.
